A known associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, Ismaila Isa Funtua has allegedly died after a brief illness on Monday. According to a report by the Cable, the death of the statesman was confirmed by his younger brother Mohammed Funtua.
An aide to President Buhari, Bashir Ahmad also confirmed the death on social media, describing it as sudden.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un! Just heard about Mallam Ismaila Isa Funtua’s sudden death. This life! May Allah accept his soul, forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannah al-Firdaus,” Bashir tweeted.

Mallam Isa Funtua hailed from Katsina State and together with late chief of staff to the President Abba Kyari was close to the Buhari Presidency. His death comes three months after Abba Kyari died of coronavirus complications.

Isa Funtua was President Buhari’s in-law as one of his sons is married to the daughter of the President. He was also the founding MD of Democrat Newspaper and the life patron of the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) as well as chairman of Bulet Construction Company.
