President Muhammadu Buhari approves new appointments

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Medical Directors for Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Calabar, Cross River state, and Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, Taraba state.

This was contained in a statement released by the presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, on Thursday, April 2.

The new MDs, according to the statement are Dr. Bassey Eyo Edet and Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu, respectively.

Dr. Edet hails from Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, and graduated from University of Calabar in 1998.

He is a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College in Psychiatry, and also Fellow of the National Institute of Management Consultants.

Also, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu is a Consultant Physician Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist. She hails from Karin-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, and graduated from the University of Maiduguri in 1995.

She completed her Residency in 2008, and received Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College.

Earlier, The Herald reported that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of an Economic Sustainability Committee on COVID-19 to be headed by vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The establishment of the committee comes as one of the measures being taken by the Federal Government to Combat the spread of the virus in the country.

The move was announced by Secretary to the Government of the Federation and chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 Boss Mustapha during a joint press briefing of the task force on the effects of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

This comes on the backdrop of 14 day lock down of Lagos, Ogun and Abuja announced by President Buhari in a televised address to the nation about the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Nigeria currently has 111 cases of Coronavirus with two confirmed deaths in the country.
