President Muhammadu Buhari, has reacted to the release of some of the girls who were kidnapped by Boko Haram members from their school on the 14 of April 2014.
The kidnap which had sparked international outrage, brought about different groups of people seeking for the release of the girls.
The girls from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno state were aged between 16-18 years as at the time of the kidnapping and were said to be in their final years in school.
Fifty of the girls had managed to escape on the day of the kidnap, and since then, the families and concerned individuals had help on to the hope that the remaining girls would be released.
Following the release of 21 of the remaining girls today, the President has reacted to the release of the girls abducted by the terrorists.
“As I depart Abuja for Germany, I welcome the release of the Chibok girls, following successful negotiations.”
“The Department of State Security (DSS) has briefed me on the matter , and will continue to provide updates.”
“Cooperation on the security, and humanitarian situation in the Northeast will form a significant part of my discussions with chancellor Merkel”, he said, before leaving for a three-day visit to Germany.
