President Muhamamdu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr Hassan Bello, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) as the Chairman, Implementation Committee for the new national carrier.
Transportation Minister, Chibuike Amaechi who made the announcement at the weekend, said the government has resolved to have the national fleet in order to boost the nation’s economy via job creation and improved revenue generation.
Amaechi noted that President Muhammadu Buhari administration is pursuing a total diversification of the economy.
He further stated that a national fleet that is private-sector driven will stimulate the maritime industry.
“The Federal Government’s intention is to make Nigeria the maritime hub in Sub- Saharan Africa and the preferred destination of the international Shipping community”, Amaechi said.
Hassan Bello, Executive Secretary/CEO, Nigerian Shippers’ Council has served in several Inter-ministerial Committees that have repositioned the maritime industry and most importantly contributed to improving maritime laws and admiralty jurisdiction especially the domestication of international conventions, Rotterdam rules ratified by Nigeria.
