President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has addressed Nigerians with a hopeful and forward-looking New Year message, highlighting the government’s plans to tackle economic challenges and foster national unity in 2025.
In his statement, the President acknowledged the difficulties many Nigerians faced in 2024, including high inflation and the cost of living. However, he noted signs of economic progress, such as a strengthened Naira, increased foreign reserves, and record growth in the stock market.
“Economic indicators point to a positive and encouraging outlook for our nation,” he said. “Fuel prices have gradually decreased, and we recorded foreign trade surpluses in three consecutive quarters.”
Plans for 2025
To address lingering concerns, such as high inflation, President Tinubu outlined several measures, including:
- Reducing inflation from 34.6% to 15%.
- Boosting local food production and manufacturing of essential drugs.
- Establishing the National Credit Guarantee Company by the second quarter of 2025 to expand credit access for underserved groups like women and youth.
He emphasized that the initiative, a partnership involving government institutions and the private sector, would drive growth, re-industrialization, and improved living standards.
The President announced the unveiling of the National Values Charter in the first quarter of 2025, a cornerstone of the Renewed Hope Agenda. The initiative aims to promote patriotism, ethical values, and a shared identity among Nigerians.
Additionally, the Youth Confab, scheduled for early 2025, will ensure inclusivity and empower young Nigerians as key players in nation-building.
President Tinubu urged Nigerians to rise above divisions of politics, ethnicity, and religion, stressing that unity and responsible citizenship are vital to achieving national goals. He also encouraged state and local governments to collaborate with the federal government in seizing opportunities in agriculture, livestock, and tax reforms.
“Let us stay focused and united. Together, we are building a Nigeria that works for everyone,” he said.
The President acknowledged the sacrifices made by Nigerians during his administration’s reforms, assuring them that brighter days lie ahead.
“Your sacrifices have not been in vain over the past 19 months. The New Year will bring us closer to the bright future we all desire and the Nigeria of our dreams,” he concluded.
