Presidency Reacts to 50-Man Travel Ban List

2 Min Read
Garba Shehu

The Presidency has stated that they have not released any list of people to be barred from traveling from Nigeria

This followed some massive backlash from Nigerians who were reacting to a number of lists that were purported to have come from the Presidency with the names of 50 Nigerians barred from traveling.

The list had even contained a deceased judge.

According to an aide of President Buhari, Garba Shehu, no such list has been released by the Federal Government.

Speaking on a Channels Television Programme, Shehu said: We’ve seen a number of names being circulated. We have not issued any list. We are not going to issue any list because, again, if we did so, a lot of criticism will follow. Trials by media and all sorts of things.”

The aide refused to call any of the names on the actual list but did mention that there were no names on the list that would surprise anyone

“These cases are mostly known by most Nigerians. There are cases that have been in the public domain. Most of them were never really instituted by this administration. They go back seven to 10 years,”

The Presidency had announced the decision to bar certain citizens from traveling out of the country on Saturday noting that it was in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s Executive Order 6.
