President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the creation of five new police commands across the country. The President also approved the decentralisation of the the force criminal and investigations department (FCID).
The development was confirmed by police spokesperson, Frank Mba in a statement on Thursday.
According to Frank Mba, the new police commands were parts of efforts on the part of the Buhari led federal government to reorganise the police institution in the country.

He also said the measures were necessary in order to implement the community policing initiative being clamored for across the country
The latest measures come against the backdrop of calls for restructuring of the police force to enable them carry out their duties better.
State governments and the Presidential task force on COVID-19 had accused the police of compromising inter-state travel restrictions across the country.
