The National Cybercrime Centre of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested a prankster, Zfancy, in Abuja for creating and sharing threatening video pranks on social media. The arrest was made at an apartment in the Wuye area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the circulation of accusatory videos that caused significant apprehension among social media users.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the videos alleged that the suspect had committed heinous crimes, including rape. However, the suspect claimed that the videos were scripted and part of an attempt to regain the spotlight after a break.
The police have warned pranksters and content creators to be law-abiding and mindful of pranks that could pose threats to the public and jeopardize national security. The public has been urged to remain calm as the Nigeria Police Force proceeds with necessary legal actions in the case.
