A poultry worker and a fried chicken seller who allegedly conspired to sell dead chicken to the public were on Monday docked before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused worker and seller, Toheeb Adedeji, 18, and Nasiru Idris, 23, respectively are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, receipt and sale of dead chicken to members of the public.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Uche Simeon, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 27 at Agip Bus Stop on Badagry Expressway in Lagos State.
He alleged that Adedeji, a worker in an unnamed poultry, sold 20 dead chicken to Idris to be fried and sold to the public.
“Adedeji was caught by the poultry guards when he sneaked a bag loaded with dead chicken out of the poultry,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the poultry worker was in company of his customer, Idris, when he was nabbed.
He said the offences contravened Sections 161, 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mr A. A. Adesanya, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in the like sum.
Adesanya said that one of the sureties must be a relative of the accused persons and the other a community leader.
He adjourned the case until April 24 for hearing. (NAN)
