The Catholic Pontiff, Pope Francis has given some defiant Nigerian priests an ultimatum following which they stand a chance of losing their jobs.
The ‘lose your job if you don’t obey me and your bishop’ ultimatum comes after the pope met with a delegation from the Ahiara diocese, on June 8 at the Vatican.
The delegation came from an area where some priests had been against the appointment of the pope since 2012.
Defending the pope, the Vatican Newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, noted that the pope’s action is “for the good of the people of God.”
The pope’s ultimatum requires the priests from the ministry to turn in theur pledge letter by July 9 or face suspension.
The pope further called for “total obedience” to the order in accepting Bishop Peter Okpaleke’s appointment.
