Embattled IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu Seriously Ill

2 Min Read

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been reported ill.

Nnamdi Kanu who has been detained since October 18, 2015 when he was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Service, DSS, and later moved to the Kuje prison was reported to have developed recurrent cough and abdominal pain due to the absence of good medical access.

According to the IPOB through a statement released by the Publicity Secretary of the group, Emma Powerful, the group claimed to have got wind of their embattled leader’s health status through his lawyers.

The statement further alleged that Kanu’s deteriorated health status may be as a result of the ill treatment he’s being subjected to by the prisons officials.

Powerful in the statement however called on the president to allow Nnamdi Kanu access to proper medical care.

The statement issued by the IPOB reads: “We have notified the international community about his present condition which include debilitating abdominal pains and occasional tightening of the chest resulting in cough, which has persisted.

“The Department of State Services has this information in its record and we suggest it makes it public for the world to know. Kanu’s loss of blood through bleeding from the nose prompted the agency to send in an external doctor to examine him while in their custody.”
