The National Health insurance Scheme Headquarters (NHIS) in Abuja Has been stormed by around 50 policemen following workers’ protest over the reinstatement of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Usman Yusuf.
Prof. Usman Yusuf the recently reinstated Executive Secretary of the NHIS CEO, was suspended in June 2017 by the Minister of Health, Prof. Issac Adewole, following allegations of gross misconduct. He was accused of conducting fraud to the tune of N919m. He was controversially reinstated by the Federal Government on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
Unionists at the NHIS have stopped all activities at the facility.
Mr. Razaq Omomeji the Chairman of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria at the NHIS told employees on Monday that they should not be intimidated.
Punch Correspondents learnt that supporters of Prof. Usman are planning to hold a solidarity rally at the facility.
Omomeji has stated that the people coming to protest are under Yusuf’s payroll.
