A Lagos resident, Olamilekan Toheeb, has accused a team of policemen of extorting and beating him up for allegedly taking photos of them.
Toheeb took to his Twitter handle @bossolamilekan1 to make the claim, noting that the incident occurred on the Lekki-Epe Expressway on Saturday.
The victim tagged the Acting Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi to the tweet.
He explained that after accusing him of taking their photos on duty, the policemen began beating him up, took his phone and accused him of being an internet fraudster.
The Lagos resident, who said he denied the allegation, stated that the policemen took him to a Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator and forced him to withdraw N100,000 to bribe them.
Toheeb shared a receipt printed out by the PoS operator.
He said that the name tags of some of the policemen in the team read, “Harrison AI, Fatai Oyekunle, Edet”.
The victim tweeted:

Reacting, a popular comedian and actor, Debo Adedayo aka Mr Macaroni said such negative reports about the police made it difficult to say good things about the force.
“This is why it is hard to say good things about the Nigerian Police. Because everyday, there is one negative report or the other! These are the issues!!!” he wrote.
Meanwhile, the Acting FPRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi has promised to investigate the matter.
“Tell the person to get (me) directly. It’s barbaric to arrest and beat someone for taking or snapping policemen on duty.
“They kick because they do nad. I feel happy when people take my pic. So Debo, tell him to get me on phone. Thanks.”
