Policeman, trying to shoot ex-Delta commissioner, kills colleague

2 Min Read

An unnamed mobile policeman has reportedly been arrested after he shot a colleague in Ajogodo area on the Sapele-Warri Road, causing his death.

The incident was said to have occurred when a vehicle the arrested policeman was escorting hit that of immediate-past Commissioner of Environment, Delta State, John Nani.

The victim was said to be the orderly to Nani, who is the Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).

According to The Punch, the mobile policeman was escorting a Toyota Hilux vehicle conveying staff of Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc in Sapele when it hit Nani’s car around 7pm on Tuesday.

Nani reportedly alighted from his vehicle to access the level of damage to his vehicle when the mobile policeman fired his rifle.

“The mobile policeman wanted to shoot Nani, but his orderly threw himself and took the bullet.

“He was rushed to a hospital, but he couldn’t survive it,” The Punch quoted an unnamed source as stating.
