Police says its personnel did not protest in North East

A trigger happy Nigeria Police officer has shot and killed an undergraduate student of the Federal Technical College of Education, Asaba and severely injured another during the primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at the Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba, where the APC primary for Delta North Senatorial District was being held.

The Policeman in question had been attached to the venue to provide security, he however went berserk and shot the people he was supposed to be protecting, killing one and injuring the other after which he fled the scene.

The incident caused pandemonium at the scene as people ran helter skelter for their lives, one of the students who was shot died on the spot before help could come as people ran for their lives.

The other victim was however lucky enough to be evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre where he is said to be recuperating from the gunshot wound.

The policeman who carried out the dastardly act fled for his life as students of the institution mobilised themselves to avenge the death of their school mate.

An unsubstantiated source said further that the Police man had shot at the students as they tried ti force their way into the school premises to attend lectures.

The incident almost ended the senatorial primary in which a wife of the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mrs Mariam Ali;  a former House of Representatives member for Ika South, Doris Uboh; and one Chief Oyibode, were contesting for the party’s tickets.

Voting, however, continued after other security agents at the venue brought normalcy to the area.

Reacting to the incident, a member of the Student Union Government of the institution Onochie Ubani, wondered why such a sensitive exercise was brought to the school premises as the students as academic activities were still in full swing in the school.

The SUG leader who also happens to be the Speaker of the SUG parliament further lamented that his personal aide, Nweke Henry, a 200-level student of Industrial Technology, who just completed his examination, was one of the victims of the incident.
