Policeman Dismissed For Holding Alcoholic Drink On Duty Says He Doesn’t Drink

2 Min Read

Forty two-year-old policeman, Kadima Useni, who was dismissed after a video showing him holding an alcoholic drink went viral, has said he does not take alcoholic drinks.

Useni, with force number 176219, was videoed in the Dopemu area of Agege, Lagos.

After he was identified as the policeman in the viral video, Useni reportedly faced orderly room trial at the instance of the Inspector General of Police, who was said to be angry over the video.

Vanguard, quoting an unnamed police source, said that Useni admitted being the policeman in the video but claimed that he only collected the alcoholic drink from some policemen’s children.

Useni, who was attached to the Mobile Force Squadron 22 Base, Ikeja, added that he does not take alcoholic drinks.

“I don’t drink alcohol. I only collected a bottle from the children of police officers, who were carrying it. Later, I returned it. It didn’t occur to me that I was been videoed, while I held the bottle,” the source quoted Useni as saying during his trial.

The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, disclosed that Useni was dismissed after the orderly room trial to serve as deterrent to others.

He added that the police commissioner, Edgal Imohimi, had directed the officer in charge of the Command Provost Section to identify and shut all beer parlours within the police community in the state to prevent similar occurrence.

He noted that any policeman found drunk on duty henceforth would face similar treatment, while pleading with the public not to offer alcoholic drinks to policemen on duty.
