Police warns private security outfits to stay away elections process

The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Mr Ali Janga has warned all quasi-security agencies to keep off elections process, centres and units across the state.

Janga gave the warning at news conference on the level of preparation of the command on Saturday’s governorship and state house assembly’s elections in Bauchi on Friday.

He said that unauthorised security persons would not be allowed at the polling units, advising them to stay away.

“It is only statutory security agencies recognised by law will be allowed for the election, hence, all quasi-security agencies, vigilante and hunters are to stay away from the entire elections process,” he said.

According to him, the command will not hesitate to deal ruthlessly with anyone who breaches or disrupts election in the state.

The police boss also barred personalities and politicians from going to any poling unit with their security details, warning them to desist from moving on the Election Day.

Janga said that total restrictions of movement of persons and vehicles between the midnight hour of Friday to 6:00 p.m. on March 9, except for those on essential duties who must carry their valid identification passes.

He called on members of the public to come out en mass and cast their votes on Saturday without fear of intimidation from any person or group of persons.

“The police and other security agencies will be all out to deal with any miscreants, political thugs and other disgruntled elements that may attempt to foment trouble during the election process.”

The Police Commissioner however, assured people of Bauchi State that adequate security would be provided to ensure level playing ground for all political parties.

He appealed to parents, traditional, religious leaders, opinion leaders and guardians not to allow their wards and subjects to be used by politicians to cause disturbance of public peace during and after the elections. (NAN)
