The senator representing Kaduna Central, Sen. Shehu Sani, has reacted to Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu’s disclosure that 1,071 persons lost their lives in crime-related cases across the country in the first quarter of 2019.
Adamu had made the disclosure in an address at the quarterly northern traditional rulers’ council meeting held on Tuesday in Kaduna.
The IG added that at least 685 persons were kidnapped within the same period.
Reacting, Sani described the revelation by the police boss as “horrific” and “tragic”.
He added that no country currently at war suffered more casualties than Nigeria which was not.
The senator, who took to his Twitter handle, said that the figures showed that Nigeria was “sick and bleeding”.
He wrote, “Going by the Police official statistics that 1,071 Nigerians were killed and 685 were kidnapped within FOUR months, no any other nation at war whether Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen or Somalia surpassed these horrific and tragic figures. Our country is sick and bleeding.”
