Police plan to collaborate with traditional rulers to curb crime in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command says it will collaborate with traditional rulers and other security stakeholders in its strategy to combat crime in the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Enugu that information-sharing was necessary in monitoring criminal activities.

“We are talking about the traditional rulers, we want to strengthen the collaboration; we have a synergy already, but we want to strengthen them at this point.

“Strengthening them (collaboration) means that we make them more efficacious so that, from time to time, we will be getting hints and knowing the type of crime that is prevalent in their areas.

“They will be synergising with their DPOs (Divisional Police Officers).

“The same thing also affects neighbourhood watch; the same thing also affects sister security agencies; the same thing also affects all relevant stakeholders.

“Whether or not, you are a clergyman so far as you are a good Nigerian, we believe that you are a stakeholder in what we are doing.

“So, through your partnership we will be able to get it right.’’

Amaraizu said that the police want to put to an end to any existing black spot in any community in Enugu State through the synergy with the security stakeholders especially the traditional rulers.

NAN recalls that the Police Commissioner in the state, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, had earlier announced that a bottom-up policing strategy would be deployed to get the desired result in the communities. (NAN)
