The long arms of the law has caught up with two siblings staff of online shopping platform, JUMIA, who supplied information that led to an armed robbery attack on the company’s retail store in the Festac area of Lagos on October 29, 2015.
The siblings, Hosea and Yohanna, worked as store keeper and driver respectively for the company, before they were named as accomplices in the robbery attack by the leader of the robbers, Ogaga Pemu, who was apprehended in a hotel in the Maryland area of the state following a tip off.
Parading the suspects on Friday before newsmen, the State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said two locally made pistols, two cartridges and a locally-made magazine with two .9mm live ammunition were recovered from them, as well as a laptop.
While Pemu allegedly confessed to a string of robberies within the Lagos metropolis, he mentioned the attack on Jumia, Festac Town as one of the operations.
In the robbery attack, they allegedly stole N1.2 million cash, phones, laptops and expensive clothes.
His confession also led to the arrest of the two siblings, whom he said got N200,000 each for supply information that led to the heist.
In his confessional statement, Pemu said: “We were six that participated in the robbery. Myself, Daniel the store keeper and his older brother, Hosea. Don Domie, Chris and another guy.
“We got N1.2million. I gave Hosea N400,000 for him and his brother. Their share was N200,000 each. I took N250,000, gave Don and Chris N200,000 each and gave the other guy who was a new person N150,000.
“That operation was my fourth. I was arrested first and then I told the police how to get them and they were also arrested. But the other members have fled.”
The commissioner said efforts were being made to track down the other fleeing members of the gang.
