An oil vandal has met his Waterloo after police officers with the Lagos State Police Command intercepted his van and discovered several sacks of Premium Motor Spirit in it.

The suspect, Wasiu Oyewole, was arrested for engaging in fuel vandalism, alongside some other accomplices. According to reports, they vandalized and scooped PMS from an NNPC pipeline situated at Owutu are of Ikorodu, Lagos state.

While reporting the arrest, the spokesperson for the police, Bala Elkana, stated that Wasiu, and the other suspects who were still on the run, were stopped by officers of the Anti-crime Division around Ejigbo, last Thursday.

He explained how they all scampered in different angles when they noticed that the officers were on their tail. However, Wasiu was caught when the officers ran after them.

Bala said,“On Thursday, March 28, 2019, around 12.30pm, while on anti-crime monitoring of the Canoe area of Ejigbo, the police operatives, led by Sergeant Sunday Joseph, suspected a Fiat bus with two contrasting colours, the Lagos commercial colour at the front, while the rest is painted in blue. On sighting the policemen, the three occupants of the bus jumped down and fled in different directions.

“The policemen pursued them and caught up with one of them, Wasiu Oyewole, of No 3 Oluseyi Street, Agodo Egbe, Lagos, while the remaining two jumped into the canal and escaped. The suspect confessed that he and his cohorts loaded the bus, with number plate LND 825 BC, with multiple  sacks laden with PMS or petrol.

“He claimed further that the NNPC pipeline was vandalized in the Owutu area of Agric in Ikorodu, where the product was loaded, while their intended sales point was Ijegun. Efforts are being made to track down the other accomplices, who jumped off the vehicle on sighting the police. Meanwhile, the NNPC officials have been contacted to decant the product.”
