A syndicate of arms smugglers has been apprehended and paraded by officers of the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday after a total of 10,000 live ammunitions were caught in their possession.

According to reports, the suspects, Adekunle Abimbola, Abel Kojo, Mukaila Ariyo, and Ade Adebayo, were accosted on July 23, 2019, around the Oke-bola area of Ibadan. And following their arrest, they confessed to have been in the business of selling arms and ammunition for several years even though they do not have the license for it.

They, however, insisted that they do not conduct transactions with criminals, instead, they sell to hunters.

Speaking on the arrest during a parade before newsmen, The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Shina Olukolu urged residents to be watchful and be careful of those they conduct businesses with especially during the Ileya celebration that is fast approaching.

Speaking further, the CP said, “The officers and men under my watch have continued to put up spirited efforts to ensure a high level of professionalism and tolerance is demonstrated when carrying out their constitutional responsibility of the protection of life and property.

“Without mincing words, criminals in Oyo state have not been having a safe haven to carry out their dastardly acts of unleashing terror on innocent citizens due to constant raids and routine patrols of all nooks and crannies. However, the command is conscious of the possibility of increase of crime rate often associated with the festive season.

“Sequel to this, as part of our proactive measures to allay the fears of the people, we have Carrie out a review of our security architecture to guarantee the security of lives and property of the citizens before, during and after the forth coming Eid-el-Kabir celebration.”
