The police in Ekiti state has arrested a 32-year-old man, Ojo Owoeye, for raping and impregnating a 16-year-old secondary school pupil.
He was on Friday arraigned by the police before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court to answer a charge of sexual abuse.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, explained that the suspect committed the offence sometime in May in Ado-Ekiti, where he sexually abused and impregnated the pupil.
“The offence contravenes Section 4 of the Ekiti State Gender-based Violence (Prohibition) Law, 2011,” Okunade stated.

Pleasing not guilty, the defence counsel, Mr Ojo Abioye, told the court that his client would take responsibility for the pregnancy and prayed the court to grant him bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Aderopo Adegboye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 and two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the matter till September 18 for further hearing.
