Police invite APC chieftain threatening voters with eviction in Lagos council

2 Min Read

The Lagos State Police Command says it has invited the Secretary to the Local Government of Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Hon. Idowu Badru for questioning over his threat to evict residents planning to vote against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general election.

Spokesman of the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the development on Wednesday.

The Herald recalls that an audio clip in which a man said anyone planning to vote against APC would be sent packing had circulated over the weekend.

It was learnt that the threat was issued in Gbara community in Eti-Osa LGA of the state.

“I know that some of you may not be voting here, but you’ll be voting in different places. For you to continue to do business here we must see who you are voting for.

“When you are voting, you must snap the party you are voting for. It’s a secret ballot. When you vote, take your phone and snap the party you are voting for. If we do not see APC there, you are in trouble…” the man could be heard saying.

Although the threat was initially attributed to a Baale in the community, Hundeyin said that a forensic investigation carried out by the command confirmed that the council secretary made the remark.

Reacting to an Arise TV report on the incident, Hundeyin said, “We work with facts, not emotions, hearsay, rumour or gossip.

“Everyone screamed it was a Baale. Our painstaking investigation suggested it was the Council Secretary.

“We already sent out an invitation (even before a video emerged). He is expected at the State Headquarters today.”
