The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has been contacted to help investigate the case of a stolen human leg from a van belonging to an organ and tissue-donation organisation.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the human leg chilled and wrapped in a cooler was stolen from the van belonging to non-profit organisation One Legacy when the staff members of the organisation stopped for a bite at a restaurant.
They were said to have returned to the van to find the cooler containing the human leg missing.
In a letter to the LA County council, coroner Mark Fajardo was reported as saying it was likely the thief did not know what was in the cooler before stealing it.
Family members of the late donor have been notified of the theft, LA Times reported Fajardo as saying.
Officials have equally obtained a DNA sample from the donor to help identify any recovered limb.
