Vehicles that ply the roads in Lagos State without adequate registration will, by February 13, be impounded, the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, has said.

This is contained in a statement signed by the police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, a DSP, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday.

Manko, who described it as a crime for people to operate their vehicles on Lagos roads without registration, said offenders would be charged to court.

“The Lagos State Police Command, hereby, advises and warns all motorists to make sure that their vehicles are adequately registered.

“The command will only give a grace of one month with effect from January 13 to February 13, 2014.

“Thereafter, the command will be left with no option than to commence a thorough clampdown on offenders.

“We will no longer tolerate such deviant behaviour and violators will be charged to court,’’ Manko said.

Manko expressed concern on how many motorists ply the roads without respect for the laws of the land.

The commissioner of police also urged Lagosians to join the command in combating crime and criminality by ensuring strict compliance to the nation’s traffic laws.
