Police Call For Victims Of Alleged Gang Rape At Flavour’s Concert To Come Forward

3 Min Read

The Enugu State Police have called on anyone, who was a victim of the alleged gang rapes at Flavour’s concert, to come forward on Wednesday.

The command stated that no victim had yet come forward and added that it was not aware of any rape case during the musical show which held at the Michael Okpara Square.

Sources in PUNCH Metro reported that some attendees of Chinedu Okoli, aka Flavour’s concert alleged gang rapes occurred at the event.

Witnesses report that they saw some ladies being defiled by hoodlums during the show, which was reportedly attended by the state Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

The participants added that policemen and security at the event could not do anything to stop the sexual attacks because of the crowd.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, in a statement had said the police had a case of attempted gang rape, adding that the mass gang rapes were being investigated.

Amaraizu informed journalists in Enugu on Wednesday that investigation had not established any case of rape.

He noted that many policemen were deployed in the concert to provide security, saying the claim was doubtful.

“The report (of the gang rapes), which is based on a Twitter message on the social media, is unfounded and we cannot operate on speculations as a law enforcement agency.

“Till now, nobody has come forward to report any case of sexual assault or molestation and rape to the command.

“However, our doors in the command, divisional headquarters and stations all over the state are open to anybody or group to make a report and we will take it up from there by doing further investigation.

“There is no reported case of rape anywhere in the Enugu State Police Command.

“We don’t have any incident arising from that event. Whoever has any should come forward, and we will look into it,” he added.

Amaraizu observed that Flavour organized the event on his own as a way of “giving back” to his teeming supporters in Enugu, where he grew up.

He suggested that the allegations could be the handiwork of mischief-makers.

“There are people who are always there to cause panic in the minds of law-abiding residents and rubbish the good work being done by the security agents and the state government,” the police spokesman added.
