Two suspected robbers were arrested within the Port Harcourt metropolis, Rivers State with a loaded ‘barretta’ pistol tucked in a long loaf of bread at the weekend.
The two male suspects, Ezekiel Godwin Ukpong (24) and Ability Mike Loveday (27), were arrested during a ‘stop and search’ exercise conducted by the police at the Abali Park/Isaac Boro Park axis of the state capital.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Musa Kimo, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on the activities of the police under his command, in Port Harcourt, on Monday.
The suspects were said to have been flagged down in a Nissan Sunny car, with registration number PBT 789 PQ, along with two other occupants who however escaped.
The police commissioner said the car was however impounded, along with the arrested armed robbery suspects who were paraded before the press during the briefing.
The Rivers police commissioner also disclosed that about 68 other people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in sundry crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery and cultism
