A barber who stabbed his mother to death over an argument that erupted between them has been apprehended by police in Lagos.
According to reports, the suspect identified as Ibrahim Oluyinde, an indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State, allegedly killed his mother on Friday at her rented apartment in the Abule Egba area of the state.
He was apprehended on Saturday after the police launched a manhunt for him.
Neighbours said they heard the 57-year-old victim screaming and tried to rescue her, but could not do so immediately as the door was locked from behind.
By the time they were able to gain access to the apartment, the victim, who was a goldsmith, was already swimming in the pool of her own blood, having been stabbed several times in the neck, while the suspect had escaped through the back door in the building.
The neighbours dutifully reported the matter at the Oko Oba Police Division.
It was gathered that the suspect allegedly blamed his mother for the death of his father who died last year due to an unspecified illness, which is believed to have caused the argument that led to the victim’s death.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos confirmed the incident, saying that the suspect had been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation.
