A 34-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Zabura Keshiwa, on Tuesday appeared in an Ojo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for pushing and dragging a riffle from a police sergeant.

Keshiwa of no fixed address was arraigned on a two-count charge of assault and obstruction of duty.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at 1 p.m. in Amuwo Odofin, Festac in Ojo Area of Lagos on March 30.

“The defendant on the said date and time did assault Sgt. Lawal Gideon by pushing him and dragging his official riffle.

“Keshiwa tried to obstruct the sergeant from carrying out his lawful duties when he was confronted.

“The Okader rider was obstructing traffic and causing breach of peace.

“When the sergeant tried to carry out his lawful duly by interrogating him he resisted the interrogation and tried to drag the riffle from the sergeant,’’ Uche said.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 172 and 117 (1) of Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State 2011.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Paul Adedamola, therefore, admitted the defendant to bail of N50,000.

Adedamola ordered the defendant to make a deposit of N25,000, produce a surety who must be a blood relation in like sum.

He said that the surety must produce a valid PHCN bill and deposed to an affidavit of means.

Adedamola adjourned the case till May 23 for hearing. (NAN)
