The Police on Friday arraigned five men at a Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly causing public nuisance within Karu.
The defendants – Ijigah Boniface, Simon Ugbashi, Husaini Nafiu, Ahmed Mamud and Faruk Abubakar were arraigned on two-count charge bordering on public nuisance and idleness, offences they all denied committing.
The Prosecutor, Bobmanuel Hope, told the court that the age of the accused persons ranged from 20 to 40 years.
He said that they were arrested on July 20 by a team of policemen led by one ASP. Joseph attached to Karu Police Station.
According to him, following intelligence reports on criminal activities within the area, the team raided a black-spot within Karu jurisdiction from about midnight to 3.00 a.m.
Hope told the court also that the defendants could not give satisfactory account of themselves during police investigation.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 198 and 406 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Sani Mohammed, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N20, 000 each with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case until Aug. 15 for hearing. (NAN)
