Police arraign 23 for allegedly damaging valuable items worth N1.2m

 The police in Ogun on Monday arraigned 23 people in an Ota Magistrates ‘Court for allegedly damaging properties worth N1.2 million belonging to a hotel.
Those charged are Lawal Bolagade, 23; John Omoegun, 18; Damilare Babatubde, 20; Nimota Popolola, 19;  Ajao Rilwan, 23 and Aderemi Bayo,18.
Others are Omosore Yemisi, 18; Mutiu Lamidi, 19; Michael Abatode, 19; Adeniyi Olupelumi, 19; Ismail Olayiwola, 25 and  Ariyo Toheeb, 25.
The police also arraigned Ajibose Isa, 24; Yusuf  Olasebikan, 22; Godwin Akpan, 23; Akinyewale  Waliu, 18; Emmanuel Falola, 19; Enilola Rasheed, 19; Saheed Olabitan, 23;Edelman Ohazorike, 24; Ariyo Sunday, 19; Olabamiji Kolawole, 19, and Nurudeen Seriki, 20.
The accused, whose addresses were given are charged with conspiracy and maliciously damages.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendants  and others still at large, committed the offence on May 4, at about 3.30 a. m. at Sea Never Dry Hotel, Iju, Ota.
Mustapha alleged the defendants  conspired and damaged a LG Television, valued N120,000, standing fan, 60,000, and other valuable items worth N1.2 million,belonging to the hotel during a fight.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
After the charge was read to them, they pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, admitted the accused persons to bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
Akinyemi adjourned the case until June 17 for further hearing. (NAN)
