The police on Monday arraigned two masquerade bearer in an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting and stealing from passers-by.
The police charged Toheeb Iyanu,23, and Wasiu Ahmed,18, with conspiracy, assault, stealing and manner likely to cause breach of the peace.
Insp. Raphel Doney, the prosecution counsel, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Aug. 24, about 4 p.m., on Abeokuta Street, Ebute Meta.
He alleged that the defendants who were masquerade bearer used the opportunity of being ”invincible” to oppress and assault passers-by.
Doney alleged that the defendants flogged the complainant, Mr Aina Badmus and stole his phones and cash.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 42, 173, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate M.O. Ajiferuke admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties in like sum who must show proof of evidence of tax payment to the state government.
He adjourned the case until Sept 9, for mention. (NAN) .
