The Kalgo Local Government Council in Kebbi state has banned food vendors from selling food items to students in the area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the action followed the hospitalisation of 71 day secondary school students in the area due to food poisoning.
NAN recalls that 71 female students of Government Day Secondary School, Kalgo, developed stomach ache after consuming suspected poisonous food sold to them by food vendors.
The management of the school had permitted an exorcist to verify that Jinns were involved.
The Sole Administrator of the council, Alhaji Musa Hassan, told NAN in Kalgo on Thursday that the ban was sequel to findings that the food poisoning was mysterious.
Hassan said samples of the food consumed by the students had been subjected to laboratory tests in Lagos.
He said the result of the test would determine the cause of stomach upset in preference to the belief as told by an exorcist that certain Jinns were offended by new rules introduced by the school management.
An exorcist, who was invited by the school management a day after the incident, Malam Abdulkadir Kalgo, revealed that students were attacked by the Jinn who poisoned their food.
He claimed that some of the students were not poisoned but attacked by the Jinn.
“The extension of closing time from 1.30 p.m. to 1.45 p.m. and opening school from 7.10 a.m. to 7.30 a.m. and closing from 1.30 p.m. to 1.45 p.m. offended the Jinn.”
He said his exorcism enable a student to be possessed by a Jinn for the revelation of the offence.
He conducted a prayer session to relocate the jinns after which all the affected students had not been complained of stomach pain.
The Principal of the school, Hajiya Gwamma Sakaba, disclosed that the 71 students hospitalised had recovered after they were brought to the exorcist who prayed for their recovery.
“The exorcist started reciting the Qur’an and a possessed girl explained that a stubborn jinn afflicted the students.”
One of the possessed students, Ms Ubaida Hamza, said she was afflicted by the stomach pain even though she did not eat the food as she was absent from school.
Meanwhile, top officials from the state ministry education had disabused the minds of students and staff on the involvement of Jinn in the incident and called for calm until the laboratory results had been obtained. (NAN)
