“Please release Nnamdi Kanu” – Yul Edochie makes passionate appeal to ‘father’ Tinubu

2 Min Read

Popular Nollywood actor and producer, Yul Edochie has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to release detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu, who is reportedly ill, has been in solitary confinement in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his extraordinary rendition to Nigeria from Kenya in June 2021.

Kanu was extradited to face trial for charges bordering on treasonable felony instituted against him at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja had ruled that his rendition violated all known international protocols.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Edochie said, “To our Leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, @officialABAT GCFR. The Jagaban.

“A man who has fought for democracy for 3 decades,

“A builder & supporter of men & women. My President, please release Nnamdi Kanu.

“A humble request from your son, Yul Edochie.”

Meanwhile, Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to the IPOB leader has said releasing the Biafra agitator is not an act of mercy.

He said Kanu’s release should be an act of obeying court decisions because his detention was illegal.

In a Tuesday tweet, he noted that Kanu’s extraordinary rendition was illegal.

“Let it be clear that the matter of releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not an act of mercy.

“Instead, it’s an act of taking the right decision to obey the court/tribunal decisions that declared his detention illegal.

“And this: #MNK shouldn’t have been renditioned in the first place,” Ejimakor said.
