The Plateau Government is collaborating with Sterling bank for the purchase of 100 buses as Special Purpose Vehicles for the Plateau Express Service Ltd.

The state Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Mohammed Mohammed, disclosed this to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Jos.

Mohammed said that the acquisition of the buses would reinvigorate and make the Plateau Express Service more proficient and profitable.

He said that the ministry would soon embark on the automation of its work process in line with global best practices to achieve a robust transportation management system.

He said that it was also collaborating with a private sector company, Temple Sync. Inspection Ltd. for the establishment of the State Computerised Vehicle Inspection Service for roadworthiness inspection.

The commissioner said this would boost revenue generation and enhance road traffic administration in the state.

He also said that the ministry had sensitised stakeholders in the transport sector to the enforcement of the Commercial Vehicle Paint Code of the state.

He said the ministry was working with the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Town Planning to acquire lands for the establishment of a Truck Terminal and Mega Motor parks at entry points of the state capital.

Mohammed said that the proposed terminals would provide a safe and better place for articulated vehicles to be parked and also help in the de-congestion of the metropolis for the free flow of traffic.

He said that this would also provide employment for the unemployed youths and increase Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.
