Pipeline Explosion: Principal Dies Trying to Save Her Students

The Principal of Bethlehem Girls College Lagos, Rev. Sister Henrietta Alokha has been declared dead following the pipeline explosion that occurred at Abule odo area of Lagos State on Sunday morning.

The explosion occurred as a pipeline of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC exploded around 9am, opposite the Bethlehem Girls College where sister Alokha worked as the Principal.

According to videos which made rounds on social media, the students had to be rescued through the back fence with many of them injured.

The principal participated in the rescue of her students and died as she tried to rescue some more from the carnage.

According to eyewitness accounts, the roof of the building which was on fire caved in on her as she went back for more of her students still trapped inside the burning building.

Most of the students have been reported safe with some bearing minor cuts and injuries.

Some of the students in severe conditions however were taken to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo.

A total of fifty houses were burnt in the inferno which followed the explosion. The NNPC has said the explosion was caused by gas leakages due to different activities around the area.
