Unilag students are certainly going through a lot.
Imagine a student who probably didn’t have anything to do with the protests. Then using such a person’s point of view, he has been; kicked out, called back, forced to undergo stringent measures before being able to be allowed back into school, and then the kicker– he has nowhere to sleep.
This is the reality of a lot of Unilag students ever since the University ‘Opened’ its doors for students to come in again after the protests.
The students have not been allowed into the hostels and have had to make do with makeshift sleeping spots– even in the rain.
There were heavy rains in some parts of Lagos last night including the Yaba/Akoka axis where Unilag is situated. Unconfirmed reports indicate that students were forced to sleep outside under the rain as they were not allowed into the hostels.
The students are bemoaning such treatment with one of them saying:
“Exams are starting on monday. There’s blackout
Rain is falling
Yet they don’t allow people in the hostels
Prices are now tripled against the protest time even we have to buy soup 150 per bowl.
I’ve been sleeping in classes since monday”
Another student said,
“Dey seized their ID card, snapped deir pictures , sent dem out under this rain
Even threatened to take them to sabo police station and they signed undertaking for disciplinary actions to be taken on them
My friends are currently under the rain”
