2 Min Read

The Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, today met with the leadership of the All Progressive Congress, APC, and that of opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the State House in Abuja.

Present at the meeting was the APC Chairman, John Oyegun, the PDP National Chairman, Ahmed Makarfi, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and other delegates.

The party leaders during the meeting wished the Nigerian President a better bill of health so he can drive the nation forward and achieve his aim.

The president thanked the guests from both parties for visiting him saying that the gathering was not a party meeting but one which showed political maturity in the country.

President Buhari added that Democracy needs responsible opposition stating that “Opposition does not mean hostility, enmity or antagonism. Democracy needs opposition, one which is vibrant but responsible.”

The PDP chairman in reaction said: “The entire family of PDP joins compatriots in welcoming you back from your medical vacation. We thank God for your recovery.

“We believe the President of our country — regardless of what party flag he or she flies — is our President. PDP is ready to offer legitimate, decent opposition. We will do this to keep government in check, but ultimately for the benefit of Nigeria.”

Chief John Oyegunm the APC chairman added: “By this meeting PMB has sent out a message that he’s President of all Nigerians, regardless of party/religion/ethnicity.”
