Serena Williams is rightly regarded as one of the greatest athletes to ever play tennis, but she’s also a powerful lady with powerful friends.
This was more evident than ever when a slew of A-List celebrities was seen courtside at her Wimbledon game against Angelique Kerber on Saturday.
Williams who only had a baby 10 months ago, a pregnancy that almost killed her, was unable to advance further in the tournament, losing 6-3 6-3 in the match which took an hour and five minutes.
She was surrounded by her friends, however, and one glance at her corner was enough to intimidate the casual viewer and cause opponents to go green with envy.
Race car driver Lewis Hamilton was seated in Williams’ section and was flanked by editorial icon Anna Wintour.
Also in attendance was Serena’s biggest fan, husband, Alexis Ohanian.
There was also golfer Tiger Woods in attendance as were Hollywood stars Zendaya, Emma Watson and Olivia Munn.
Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Shonda Rimes was also at the game as they all lent their support to the American tennis legend.
And Serena Williams even had a royal audience as Princess Meghan Markle and Princess Kate Middleton were also in the Royal corner taking it all in. Recall that Serena Williams was a guest at the Royal Wedding which took place a couple of months ago.
Serena did not win, but she was gracious in defeat stating in a post-match interview: ‘It’s obviously disappointing but I can’t be disappointed, I’m literally just getting started. I’m just me and that’s all I can be, I tried, but Angelique played really well, out of her mind, and I look forward to continuing to be out here. I’m really happy for Angelique, it’s amazing,’
Angelique for her part said: ‘It’s a dream come true, you are such an inspiration for all us, that’s amazing and I’m sure you will have your next Grand Slam title very soon,
‘I knew I had to play my tennis. I’m the first German after Steffi to have won, that’s amazing.
