The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, had, on Friday said from July 1, 2016, his government would commence a total enforcement against street trading and hawkers.
The governor, who appeared as a celebrity guest on Your-View talk show on TV Continental to discuss issues pertinent to Lagos state, said: “Both buyers and sellers in traffic will pay a fine of N90,000 or face a jail term.”
Ambode said that the renewed enforcement is in line with Section One of the Lagos State Street Trading and Illegal Market Prohibition Law 2003 which restricts street trading and hawking in the metropolis.
Following this ban, a picture of the governor buying fro a street trader before his election has surfaced.
