Nigerian music producer and singer Pheelz is making bold claims about the future of Afrobeats, suggesting a collaboration with rising star Rema could “dictate the future” of the genre.
Speaking on the latest episode of the “Menisms” podcast, Pheelz expressed his admiration for Rema, even crediting him with inspiring his own foray into singing.
“I think Rema and I can dictate the future [of Nigerian music/Afrobeats],” Pheelz declared. “I would love to work with him. I think our collaboration will change the world.“
This isn’t the first time Pheelz has acknowledged Rema’s influence. He previously revealed in an interview that a tweet from Rema during the COVID-19 lockdown – “The world paused for you to catch up” – served as a personal motivator, pushing him to pursue singing alongside producing.
Pheelz, known for producing smash hits like “Finesse,” has found success as a singer in his own right. Whether a collaboration with Rema will truly “change the world” remains to be seen, but the potential pairing has certainly sparked excitement among Afrobeats fans.
