Philip Kayode Moses, popularly known as Pheelz, expressed his concerns about the diminishing passion for music within the Nigerian artist community. During an insightful discussion on The Dadaboy Show, hosted by media personality Ehiz, Pheelz highlighted the shift in focus from the art of music to the more lucrative business aspects.
Pheelz remarked that the distinction between Nigerian artists, entrepreneurs, and manufacturers is fading, emphasizing a growing trend where the creative process is overshadowed by a business-oriented mindset. He voiced his worry that the music industry is transforming into a mechanical process, likening it to the manufacturing of products rather than the artistic expression it once was.
“Nigerian artists are losing that love for music. It’s starting to become manufacturing. It’s starting to feel like we’re manufacturing soaps like we are making iPhones,” Pheelz expressed, drawing attention to the apparent loss of creative essence.
The acclaimed producer cautioned against prioritizing ephemeral marketing strategies over the timeless value of good music. He stressed that, despite the evolving landscape, the core of the industry should always revolve around the artistry that stands the test of time.
“I don’t know about anybody else but for me, it’s about the music. I think that’s the most important thing. That’s the one thing that will stand the test of time. Marketing strategies will come and go. We shouldn’t be really focused on that,” Pheelz affirmed.
