Some pharmacists in Lagos on Friday advised the public to always patronize approved pharmaceutical outlets who were the custodians of drug dispensaries.
The pharmacists, who spoke with the NAN in commemoration of the 2019 World Pharmacists’ Day, urged patients to always comply with directives of health care providers.
Mrs Abimbola Ajayi, the Deputy Director of Pharmacy, Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, Lagos, said that medication’s effectiveness would be achieved if patients complied with directives of the health care providers.
“It is imperative for patients to get prescribed medications from approved pharmaceutical outlets, for those are custodians of drug dispensaries.
“Over-the-counter could be prompted, possibly due to urge at satisfying immediate need upon situations that warrant it, but eventual medical consultation must ensue,” she said.
Ajayi said that medical recuperation depended on individual differences and body constituents in medication usage.
“It is imperative to have knowledge on proper management for responsive result.
“For example, if you are undergoing malaria treatment, it is pertinent to consume fatty meal ahead of medications, otherwise, the whole recuperative process could be futile,” she said.
Another pharmacist, Mrs Beatrice Ogunlana, said that daily activities must commence with healthy breakfast in the right proportion for active and healthy living.
“Meal constitutes a major role toward good health. The day must start with healthy breakfast, which could be called ‘drug’ itself.
“If a persistent wrong dietary habit is not curbed, such person would end up being a regular patient at the hospital,” Ogunlana said.
According to her, medications, whether prescribed or not, could become poison if wrongly administered.

“It is paramount, therefore, to understand that medications require strict adherence for effectiveness.
“This should be accompanied with regular exercise like walking around one’s residence as a daily routine,” she said.
Mr Seun Sorunke, a pharmacist, urged patients to always consider self-care as paramount for survival.
“Patients must adequately care for themselves psychologically and physically, while reducing strenuous activities that could deteriorate health conditions.
“Adequate rest and proper diet enhance healthy lifestyle.
“This development deters weight gain because stored up fat will be exterminated, following active lifestyles, for there are basically no medications for weight loss, as often being wrongly propagated,” Sorunke said.
He identified good hygiene and regular consultation with professionals to enhance healthy living.
