A petition has been submitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Dr. Bashir Jamoh, the Director General of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and an unnamed contractor, over the alleged mismanagement of the Senate building project at the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko, Delta State.
The petition, signed by legal practitioner Deji Adeyanju, accuses Dr. Jamoh of awarding and disbursing funds for the project to a contractor who failed to execute the construction. Despite receiving the allocated funds and necessary resources, the contractor allegedly abandoned the project, leaving the Senate building uncompleted.
Dr. Jamoh, as the Director General of NIMASA, is being held responsible for the oversight and failure to ensure the project’s completion. The petition also raises concerns about the lack of sanctions against the contractor and the potential mismanagement of public funds under Dr. Jamoh’s leadership.
“The failure of the contractor to carry out its duties without appropriate sanctions from Dr. Bashir Jamoh raises serious concerns about the proper administration of public funds and the execution of government projects under his leadership,” the petition reads.
The petitioners are urging the EFCC to investigate the matter thoroughly and hold all parties involved accountable for any misconduct.
Efforts to reach Dr. Jamoh for comments on the allegations were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
The Nigeria Maritime University, located in Okerenkoko, Delta State, is a critical institution for maritime education and research.
