Atedo Peterside has criticized General Ibrahim Babangida for making light of the June 12 events during his book launch. Peterside expressed his disappointment during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, stating that the event should have been a somber moment to show respect to those who lost loved ones during that period.
Peterside’s criticism stems from the fact that Babangida’s book launch turned into a comedy event with laughter, bantering, and fundraising. He emphasized that discussing sensitive topics like June 12 or the Holocaust should be done with respect and gravity, without laughter or jokes.
Furthermore, Peterside questioned Babangida’s changing narrative about the June 12 events, pointing out that each time he speaks about it, the story changes slightly. He also expressed his disappointment that Babangida’s admission of responsibility came three decades late, and that the event was used for fundraising, which he found insensitive.
