Supporters of the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi have called on him to publicly state his stance on the money laundering conviction of the Director-General of his campaign, Dr. Doyin Okupe.
The supporters, popularly known as Obidients, made their position known on Twitter on Tuesday.
Recall that Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday convicted Okupe for breaching the Money Laundering Act and jailed him for two years, with an option of N500,000 fine on each of the 26 count charges for which he was found guilty.
Speaking on Monday during an interactive session with journalists in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, Obi said he was undaunted by the conviction of Okupe.
“I am hearing about it (the conviction) just like you. I am still studying what is coming out of the courts and everything. I believe in the rule of law. It is not going to demoralise me,” he told reporters.

However, many of Obi’s supporters called on Okupe to step down from the campaign or should be fired by his principal.

He should step down. No big deal. Let’s lead by example. Besides there are Over 100 vibrant people that can do the job well or better ( you, Rumi among others). Let’s see move forward. When the courts clear him, he can come back if need be.

I've made my position known. I think Dr Doyin Okupe should step down from the campaign council. No matter how tricky it is, to be convicted for any financial impropriety connected to Dasukigate is unacceptable.

I'd rather he resigns than put PO in a position where he is forced to fire him.. That's if they think the situation is worth resigning for

I just want @doyinokupe to resign as DG of PO campaign, I can't be defending this kind of allegation

Doyin Okupe should resign for a more credible and Obi-like person to take the lead. He can support from the sideline just like General Enenche is doing. After we win the election, the merits of the case can be looked into to be sure it’s not political witch hunt. My 2cents
