Peter Obi reacts to arrest of supporter Chude Nnamdi

The presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has reacted to Saturday’s arrest of his staunch supporter and Twitter influencer, Chude Nnamdi.

In a Wednesday statement, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed that Chude, who tweets from @chudi_, was being investigated for cyberstalking following his arrest on Saturday, March 18 in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The police image-maker stated that a prima facie case had been established against the Twitter influencer while the case file has been forwarded to the Force Legal Department for further action.

In a Thursday statement, Obi, who did not specifically mention Chude, expressed concern that security agencies were hounding those condemning wrong doings using social media while those attacking and brutalising voters were left unchecked.

“It is heartbreaking that citizens who simply went out to exercise their civic duties and vote candidates of their choice were brutalized and attacked in such a horrendous and vicious manner.

“Protection of lives and properties is the primary responsibility of government and this responsibility must be sacrosanct including in our dear country.

“It is equally disheartening that the security agencies with the constitutional duty of preventing and detecting crime have not made the arrest of the criminals who perpetrated these brutal acts a primary focus, but were instead quick to detect and arrest citizens who are using their right to free speech and social media to condemn the wrong doings of our supposed Leaders,” Obi said.
