The 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has congratulated the Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, as the Nigeria airline commences direct flights to London, United Kingdom.

The airline first announced its direct flight operations to London in February, with the inaugural flight scheduled for 12:10 am on March 30.

During a prelaunch forum organised by Air Peace to engage travel agencies and partners involved in the London flight operations, Chief Operating Officer of the airline, Oluwatoyin Olajide, assured stakeholders that the London operations would be carried out daily with Boeing 777 aircraft and Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

In a statement on Friday, March 29, Obi said, “I join other well-meaning Nigerians in congratulating the Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, and his entire team at Air Peace Ltd, as they commence their direct flights to London, United Kingdom.

“Their inaugural flight from Lagos to Gatwick Airport in London is scheduled for midnight, 12:10 am on 30th March 2024, just a few hours from now.

“This feat, as achieved by Air Peace, not only, arguably, offers unbeatable fares to Nigerian travellers, but also helps us save the much-needed foreign exchange in the country.”

Obi, a former Anambra governor, said the move would further create jobs for Nigerians and contribute immensely to the nation’s economic growth.

“I salute his resilience and courage in actualising this dream while appreciating all those who contributed to the success of this project.

“More Nigerian businesses will grow to compete favourably on the global stage with the right leadership and government support,” he added.
