The presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has appointed a former presidential aide, Akin Osuntokun, as the Director-General of his campaign council.
National Chairman of LP, Julius Abure announced Osuntokun’s appointment after a strategic meeting of the party, which had Obi, members of the National Working Committee and several political candidates of the party in attendance on Tuesday.
Osuntokun, who is a political scientist and strategist, served as Political Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He was also Director of the presidential campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2011.
His appointment followed the resignation of Dr Doyin Okupe as the LP presidential campaign DG.
Okupe quit the role after a Federal High Court convicted him of breaching the Money Laundering Act last Monday.
Speaking on Osuntokun’s appointment, Abure described him as a “worthy and trustworthy” replacement for Okupe.
